What does CHAS cover at the dentist?

Reviewed by Dr Samuel Ong Jien Woon, BDS (Singapore), Clinic DirectorLast reviewed 4 November 2026General information, not a diagnosis
Short answer: CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation cardholders get a government subsidy on 18 common dental procedures at CHAS dental clinics, from check-ups, scaling and X-rays to fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns and dentures. CHAS Green cards do not carry dental subsidies. CHAS does not cover braces, clear aligners, implants, wisdom tooth surgery, whitening or veneers. Dental treatment is not free: you pay the clinic’s fee minus the subsidy.

The full subsidy table for all 18 procedures is on our CHAS page (MOH schedule effective 1 October 2025).

Is dental free with a CHAS Blue card?

No. CHAS is a co-payment scheme: the subsidy is deducted from the clinic’s fee and you pay the balance. For a routine visit where the consultation, scaling, polishing and fluoride can all be claimed, the subsidy can cover most of the fee. Larger treatments such as crowns and root canals still have a balance to pay, which patients aged 60 and above can further reduce with Flexi-MediSave.

Yearly limits

Limits are per procedure, not per visit. For example: 2 consultations a year at least 6 months apart, 2 scalings, 6 fillings, 4 extractions, 2 root canal treatments and 4 crowns per calendar year. Only one CHAS claim can be made per patient per day. Full list on the CHAS page.
