Toothsmith Dental Surgery Singapore

CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation dental subsidies

Toothsmith is a CHAS dental clinic. If you hold a CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation card, you receive a government subsidy on 18 common dental treatments here. Below: what is covered, how much is subsidised, and the yearly limits (MOH schedule effective 1 October 2025, current as at October 2026).

In brief: Bring your CHAS/MG/PG card and NRIC · Subsidies apply to 18 procedures including check-ups, scaling, polishing, fluoride, X-rays, fillings, extractions, dentures, crowns and root canals · Not covered: braces, implants, wisdom tooth surgery, whitening · You pay the fee minus the subsidy · One claim per day.

How CHAS works at the dentist

  1. Show your valid CHAS, MG or PG card (physical or digital) and NRIC at registration.
  2. Your dentist examines you and recommends treatment. CHAS requires a clinical assessment for each procedure claimed.
  3. You are told the fee and the subsidy before treatment.
  4. After treatment, you pay the fee minus the CHAS subsidy and receive an itemised bill showing both.
  5. For multi-visit procedures (dentures, crowns, root canal treatment), the subsidy is claimed when the procedure is completed, and the procedure must be completed before your card expires.

See MediSave & Flexi-MediSave.

MOH dental fee benchmarks

Since 1 October 2025, MOH has published recommended fee ranges for the 18 CHAS dental procedures, and CHAS dental clinics are required to display them beside their price list. They are a reference for typical cases, not a cap. The full list is displayed at the clinic and published on the MOH website.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for CHAS dental subsidies?
Singapore Citizens holding a CHAS Blue or CHAS Orange card, and all Merdeka Generation (MG) and Pioneer Generation (PG) cardholders. CHAS Green cardholders are not eligible for dental subsidies. CHAS Orange cardholders became eligible for the ten basic and preventive dental procedures from 1 October 2025.
What do I need to bring?
Your valid physical or digital CHAS, MG or PG card and your NRIC. Children under 15 should bring their CHAS card with a student ID or birth certificate. MG and PG seniors should present their MG or PG card with their NRIC. Cards cannot be shared or transferred.
How many subsidised visits can I have each year?
Limits are per procedure, not per visit. Per calendar year: 2 consultations (at least 6 months apart), 2 scalings, 2 polishings, 2 fluoride applications, 6 X-rays, 6 fillings, 4 extractions, 2 root canal treatments, 4 permanent crowns, 2 re-cementations and 1 denture reline or repair per jaw. Dentures are limited to 1 upper and 1 lower every 3 calendar years. Only one CHAS claim can be made per patient per day.
Which dental treatments are not covered by CHAS?
Braces and clear aligners, dental implants, wisdom tooth surgery, teeth whitening, veneers and mouthguards are not CHAS-claimable. The supporting crowns of a bridge can be claimed as permanent crowns. Wisdom tooth surgery and implant surgery may be MediSave-claimable instead.
Do I still pay anything?
Yes, but for a routine visit the balance is small. CHAS is a co-payment scheme: you pay the clinic’s fee (including GST) minus the CHAS subsidy. When all four items of a routine visit can be claimed (consultation, scaling, polishing and fluoride), the subsidy covers almost the whole fee and the amount left to pay is minimal. If you were last seen less than 6 months ago, the consultation or fluoride claim may not be available yet and the balance is higher. Call or WhatsApp us with your card type and we will check what you can claim before your visit. Your itemised bill shows the fee, the subsidy and the amount you paid.
Can I use CHAS together with MediSave or Flexi-MediSave?
Yes, where the procedure qualifies. For root canal treatment and permanent crowns, patients aged 60 and above can apply Flexi-MediSave (up to $400 a year) on top of the CHAS subsidy. Standard MediSave is for surgical procedures, which are generally not CHAS procedures, so they rarely overlap.
Does CHAS cover a dental emergency?
A consultation for pain, an X-ray, a filling or an extraction are all CHAS-claimable within the yearly limits, so most emergency visits are partly subsidised.
How do I check my remaining CHAS claims?
Our front desk can check your remaining procedure balance when you register. You can also call the CHAS hotline on 1800-275-2427.
How do I apply for a CHAS card?
Apply online at chas.sg or at a Community Centre. Eligibility for Blue or Orange is based on household monthly income per person or, for households with no income, the annual value of your home. MG and PG cardholders receive their cards automatically.
