Using MediSave and Flexi-MediSave for dental treatment

MediSave is the national medical savings account in your CPF. It can be used for a defined list of dental procedures. This page explains the two routes: standard MediSave for surgical procedures, and Flexi-MediSave for patients aged 60 and above for root canal treatment and permanent crowns.

In brief: MediSave: wisdom tooth surgery (fully claimable) and implant surgery (up to $1,950 per implant) · Flexi-MediSave: age 60+, up to $400 a year, root canals and crowns at CHAS dental clinics, can be stacked with CHAS · Not for check-ups, cleaning, fillings or braces.

Standard MediSave: surgical dental procedures

MediSave may be used for dental procedures that involve surgery and are performed for medical reasons, at a MediSave-accredited clinic such as ours. The amount that can be withdrawn is set by CPF for each procedure. At Toothsmith this works out as follows:

Frequently asked questions

Which dental treatments can MediSave pay for?
Standard MediSave covers dental procedures that involve surgery and are done for medical reasons, such as surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth, dental implant placement and removal, and certain jaw and gum surgeries. It cannot be used for check-ups, scaling, fillings, simple extractions, dentures, braces or whitening. Separately, Flexi-MediSave (age 60 and above) can be used for root canal treatment and permanent crowns at CHAS dental clinics.
What is Flexi-MediSave?
Flexi-MediSave allows Singaporeans aged 60 and above to use up to $400 a year from their own MediSave, or their spouse’s MediSave if the spouse is also 60 or above, for outpatient treatment at CHAS clinics, polyclinics and public specialist clinics. From mid-2026 it was extended to root canal treatment and permanent crowns at CHAS dental clinics. The $400 is a yearly total per patient, not per visit.
How much MediSave can I use for wisdom tooth surgery?
At Toothsmith, the full surgical fee ($1,362.50 for one tooth, $2,343.50 for two) is 100% MediSave-claimable, so nothing is payable in cash as long as the MediSave account used has sufficient balance. We submit the claim for you after the procedure.
How much MediSave can I use for a dental implant?
Up to $1,120 per implant for the operation plus up to $830 for day-surgery charges, so up to $1,950 per implant placed. Our surgical visit fee is $1,950. The abutment, scan and crown stages ($1,250) are not MediSave-claimable.
Can I use a family member’s MediSave?
Yes. MediSave can be used for approved dependants: spouse, children, parents, grandparents and siblings (siblings must be Singapore Citizens or PRs). The account holder signs a Medical Claims Authorisation Form. For Flexi-MediSave, only your own or your spouse’s MediSave can be used, and both must be aged 60 or above.
Can Flexi-MediSave be combined with CHAS?
Yes. For a root canal or crown, the CHAS subsidy is applied first, and up to $400 of Flexi-MediSave can then be applied to the remaining amount, with any balance paid in cash.
What documents do I need for a MediSave claim?
Your NRIC. If using a family member’s account: their NRIC, a screenshot or printout of their MediSave balance, and the signed Medical Claims Authorisation Form. The claim is submitted by the clinic; the deduction appears in the account holder’s CPF statement.
Is Toothsmith MediSave and Flexi-MediSave accredited?
Yes. Toothsmith Dental Surgery is a MediSave-accredited dental clinic for surgical procedures and is onboarded for Flexi-MediSave, so patients aged 60 and above can use Flexi-MediSave for root canal treatment and permanent crowns here. Our dentists are MediSave-accredited practitioners.
